Ian Campbell was  born in Dundee, Scotland in the 1950's and has led life of adventure. Married for over 50 years to Liz, also from Dundee, world travel was always important to both of them and contributed to many of Ian's experiences and talent for storytelling.

In1981 Ian, Liz and two daughters Sharon and Vicky emmigrated to South Africa after many years of the oil industry boom and offshore working in Scotland.

Making the leap and moving to the other side of the world in South Africa. Soon Ian was travelling for work again to the diamond mines of Namibia, the power stations of Botswana, business in Kenya, Mauritius and all over the sub-Sahara Africa.

The family welcomed third daughter Dawn and eventually the family moved once more but this time to the Middle East.

Based in Dubai, the Middle East became home and was  a major marketplace for business for Ian, as a Director of major oil and gas related inspectorates.

Returning to his roots, Ian returned to his hometown of Dundee in the mid 1990s. Ian's career also took him to Greece, Malaysia and Australia and kept the author busy - all the time with a thirst for life experience throughout the globe.

Resettling again in the Dundee area in the late 2010s, Ian took the post of Managing Director for a large Scottish heavy engineering company until leaving after seven years to carry out consultancy roles at home and internationally.

Retirement was too easy and cruising the world became the main activity for Ian and Liz. In between trips, the search for authentic information on family history was becoming a 'must do' and soon hoards of downloads and printouts were accumulated which told the story of the author's ancestors in Dundee.

The vast array of information was there, it was scrutinised and it was exciting. It had to be written into the true story of "The Crescent". In truth, it almost had the power to write itself and so, on Halloween 2020, the first words of the book were committed to writing.

Ian Campbell's thirst for adventure transformed into storytelling, all the while reconnecting Ian to his roots and his family's past.

Throughout the dark, cold and unsettling Covid winter, the story took shape and by the middle of January 2021 the first draft was finished.

The rest as they say is history, and is still being made.
